2011-2012 Curriculum

This year we are switching things up. This is our 4th year homeschooling and we are still just as excited. School supplies are bought. All the books but one have arrived and we still need to order our Pre-K curriculum. I am using the Well-Planned Day Planner for the first time and I can't describe how excited I am. I have been stalking it for 3 years now. I am so happy to finally be able to use it. Even my husband is excited about it. Heehee. We also purchased the Student Planner from Well Planned Day for my 3rd grader to use. She is super excited as well. She loves having a place to keep all her assignments. This should work out nicely for her.

Drum roll please... Here is what we are doing this year.
The ages of my kiddos are 8 {3rd grade}, 4 {PreK}, and 2.

3rd Grade

Bible: Apologia Who Is God? and Notebooking Journal {Switched from Lifepac}

Math: Horizon 3rd grade

Language Arts: Abeka Language 3 and I really want to add Writing with Ease as well. A fellow homeschooler just showed it to me and it looks wonderful!

Reading: We are going to be giving Total Language Plus a try. About 3-4 of them throughout the year. We are starting off with "The Sign of the Beaver"

Handwriting: We are tackling cursive this year Horizons Penmanship 3. {Switched from A Reason For Handwriting}

Spelling: Horizon Spelling 3 {Switched from A Reason For Spelling}

Science: Apologia Botany and Notebooking Journal (Also will be taken at Co-Op all year as a refresher and to enjoy additional experiments with other children as well)

History: Story of the World Volume 2 Medieval Times

Music: Meet The Great Composers

Art: God and Christian Artists

Special Monthly Project: This year we all have decided to learn all about one person every month. We will eat some meals from that time period of the person's life, crafts, lapbooks, and then my daughter will present about each person at the end of each month. The first month she has chosen to learn about Helen Keller.

Co-Op Classes: This year is our first year taking part of a co-op. We are very excited and I am praying that even though it's on Friday's only that I don't feel like we are drowning in what needs to be accomplished.
Fall Semester: Loom Knitting (if no room available in gymnastics), Answers for Kids, and Apologia Botany.
Winter/Spring Semester: Around the World 12 Weeks, Yarn Crafts, and continued Apologia Botany.

PreK

Letter of the Week and lots hands on learning activities

Co-Op: a Preschool curriculum

2 yr old

Lots of playing with blocks, coloring, playdoh, etc. Anything that will keep busy hands occupied. :)

Co-Op: In the Nursery

I think we are being ambitious this year and I am praying for no burn out. I am determined this year we are going to have more fun. Not that we didn't have fun last year but it was more "come on we need to get this done. We can't get behind." Funny thing we never were behind. We actually finished early last year. I want more laughs. More hands on. More fun. More field trips. I think we can do it. ;) Oh and take more pictures. Yes I want us all to take more pictures this year. Oh our school time. Of just our life. In general.

We also are going to be applying this verse to our homeschool life and daily lives. I pray this will help in all areas of work and help us all not to want to complain and buck our heels at the work. As for it is the Lord's calling as to why we are homeschooling in the first place. :)

Colossians 3:23
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men."
