Heeeellllpppp!!!!

OK So today had been going great! Not much school left to do at all by the time my husband had to leave for work... around noon. Only 3 subjects actually.

Math, Science, and History.

We had already done part of Math... learning Multiplication... while he was here this morning and were simply waiting for my littlests 2nd nap time to tackle the reading of Science and History and finishing Math.

However upon starting ONE lesson of the math right after lunch she whipped through the Multiplication part and then dddddddrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggggggggggggggggggggggeeeeeeeeeeeddd through the rest of the paper. Where exactly you might ask... the triple digit addition problems and double digit (carry over) subtraction problems part. Problems that she FLIES through on some days, but recently she is getting SO bored she takes {NO JOKE AT ALL} HOURS to answer like 12 questions. Today she took 30-40 mins to answer 8... EIGHT... carry over subtraction problems.

She hates to do them.

Loathes it.

It isn't at all because she doesn't know what to do. It is because she is bored as all get out to looking at them all on the paper and answering them. When pushed she can get them done within MINUTES {and they are right mind you}... what gives!?

We go rounds of "come one you have 10 mins to finish" and if I get sidetracked with something for the boys she just keeps going slower than a snail in finishing up something I know she can do with hardly thinking. UGH! It is so frustrating!

After JUST learning about multiplication THIS MORNING she can whip through those problems but simple addition/subtraction problems she doesn't want to answer.

Why, why, why, why!?

I don't understand!!

Someone.... anyone.... I need help.

I need some advise on how to get her to enthusiastically answer a handful of problems I know she knows and gets correct 97% of the time. The 3% she doesn't is simple notpaytingattentionitis. Sure there are times that I remember simply just not wanting to finish my math, but no real solution other than "you have to do it now" being given when I was a child. There are times for her she loves it and begs for more, and other times... well as you read above she just simply would rather do other things in math.

Any suggestions on how to tackle those problems on the page? We are doing Horizons Math 2. There aren't many on a page at all, but once she gets to them she drifts off to whatever land holds her interest at that time. Unless I sit right next to her for every addition and subtraction section she won't go answer them like I know she can and has done before. There are just sometimes I can not be sitting right next to her to keep her on task. I need help!

Someone.... anyone??????

Love,
The Very Stressed Unsure Mother.

We switched to Math U See from Singapore because of the melt downs. We still have them at times...but the unit type methodology and dvds really help!
